Be aware of God and who he is.  To see God is automatically to be in love with Him!  The main reason we fail to love God is because we fail to "see" Him... Our spiritual vision is blocked because of our worldly attachments :(

The less we focus on "what we want" and the more we focus on all He has done, the more we "see His face", the more our hearts are filled with peace, love.

Here's a great article on why seeking God's face is so important.

ASV | James 4:4

4Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.

In order to truly love God we must "reject the world".  Nothing in the physical can give you the Joy you need to absolutely love living.  Not money, not property, not work, not power, not sex, not food, nothing.

Those things will bring you temporary happiness.  But without God those things will leave you feeling empty and depraved.  What's worse, if you disregard/ignore God to get worldly things then you can end up "losing your soul", which makes it very difficult to find true Joy in your life :(

So take an inventory of your heart... Be honest, does your heart have worldly values (i.e. assertiveness, selfishness, pride, etc)?  Or does your heart value spiritual goals (i.e. submissiveness, selflessness, meakness)?  Whichever your heart truly values will control your actions.  Whatever your heart values will determine whether you love/serve God, or whether you love/serve the world.

If your heart has the world's values, then confess them openly and watch how God slowly diminishes your love for the world then grows your love for Him!

Once you're aware of God be still and know that He is God and you are not.  We like to think that if we don't do good things for ourselves then good things won't happen.  But that's not true.  God always does good for us, but we simply don't appreciate what He does.

Being still allows us to appreciate God's greatness at work all around us, all the time!  By being still, and not leaning on our own strength, we gain greater awareness and love for God.  In our fast-paced, go-getter world, stillness in the Lord is probably the most beneficial thing we can learn to do.

The most important thing about loving God is to abide in Him.  God is Love, God has all power, in God's presence is fullness of Joy.

Now that you're aware of God's presence, you've rejected the world, and embraced stillness, simply abide and love for God will flourish.

Yes! of course we do keep on asking the things we want rather thanking God for His many gifts and keeping us safe in His Mighty Hands and under His wings.
